Our Mission

Mi Camino to Medicine was founded by four sisters to address persistent inequities in access to healthcare education and careers. “Mi Camino,” meaning “my journey,” reflects the complex paths that underrepresented students navigate through educational and professional systems. The organization works to reduce structural barriers by offering free, centralized, and practical guidance across multiple healthcare pathways, including nursing, physician assistant, medical, and veterinary careers. Its mission is to advance equity in healthcare education by equipping students with the knowledge and support needed to make informed, sustainable career decisions.

Racial and Ethnic Representation Across Healthcare Professions in the United States

Across health professions, racial and ethnic representation continues to lag behind the diversity of the U.S. population, especially in physician and advanced practice roles, where Black, Hispanic/Latino, American Indian/Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander communities remain persistently underrepresented.

Pathways like Mi Camino to Medicine help counter these inequities by expanding mentorship, institutional knowledge, and career guidance for first‑generation and underrepresented students pursuing healthcare careers.
